Summer Activities for the Boys and Girls Club

​Description: BGCCR requested financial support in the amount of $1,000 to help with summer field trip activities for our west side Clubs.

Since youth spend the majority of their summer vacation at the Clubs, they plan activities that will keep them active, outside while also introducing them to new experiences. They do this through various field trips throughout the summer that appeal to all ages of kids.
This summer’s field trip activities will include weekly trips to
 Swimming pools or splashpads
 Cedar Rapids Library
 Stoney Point YMCA
 Carmike Movie Theaters
 Nature activities at Jones Park
 Bowling at May City Bowl
 BBQ at Morgan Creek Park
 End of summer trip to Adventureland
Many of the youth come from low-income families and do not have the opportunity to experience these types of activities. They believe it is important for the youth to have a life education as well as a school education. Although many of the businesses for the activities listed above donate admission tickets, it is their responsibility to get the kids to and from these activities. As gas prices typically increase during the summer months, this is one area where they need extra financial help each summer.
