CR netWORK funded a portion of the 2010 program. Below is a description of the 2010 event.
The August 2010 “Summer in the Park” program was a huge success! Nearly 70 youth were reached. The demographics were 75% female, 25% male, and 90% of attendees were between the ages of 6-12. Activities were varied, but included:
PUBLIC
 A watermelon seed spitting contest. Everyone had a lot of fun with this event – even the volunteers!
 Photography. Taking pictures was a big hit with the youth. One day a week, the volunteers would bring digital cameras and walk with the kids around the park taking photographs. After they took the pictures, each volunteer spent time speaking with each child about the picture contents. Nearly 100 photos were developed during the program.
 Craft time was well received, especially by the girls. One day, the volunteer helpers were struggling with one of the bracelet kits. A young lady jumped right in and showed the volunteer leader how to get started! The look of intensity and determination on the face of this young lady as she helped the adults was priceless.
 On the final day of the program, all the kids learned how to play croquet. Most of the youth had never seen the game, let alone played it. Having the opportunity to learn something new and even make up some “new rules” provided for camaraderie and laughter.
