School/Organization: Tait Cummins Project Leader: Chad Spore/Warren Valenta Amount: $1,000 Description: This complex has been a Westside fixture for many years and provides a great place for our youth to play baseball and softball. The fact that the complex was built on an old land fill and the recent flooding had left the complex in need of major repairs to make it safe for play. Date:8/24/2010
School/Organization: HACAP Project Leader: Selita Jansen/Chad Spore Amount: $3,000 Description: Daycare providers on the Westside have significantly decreased since the Flood of 2008. Prior to the flood there were 29 licensed in-home daycare providers on the Westside. As of March 2010 only 5 of those have recovered and are back providing care to families. Date: 8/24/2010
School/Organization: Taylor Elementary Project Leader: Rebecca Spore/Joyce Firzlaff Amount: $168.37 Description: The condition of the asphalt at Taylor School, unexpectedly required that it move up higher in the rotation for receiving it's 'once in every several years' asphalt sealant. Thus resulting in the US Playground Map at Taylor School to be covered and barely visible. Date: 8/24/2010
School/Organization: Van Buren Elementary Project Leader: Candyce Amount: $700 Description: Van Buren Elementary is at Title-1 school located on the Westside of town and serves approximately 360 students from grades PK - 5. CR netWORK partnered with Physical Education teacher, Tom Hodges, to institute a golf program at Van Buren. Date: 7/16/2010
School/Organization: Northwest Neighborhoods Project Leader: Chad Spore/Marty Hoeger Amount: $303 Description: The new Time Check Park on the Northwest side was rapidly becoming a place for unsupervised youth to loiter. There was vandalism and graffiti, as well as negative peer interactions. Cedar Rapids Neighborhoods, INC (CRN) believed that the provision of youth programming in the Park would serve to alleviate much of the potential for ongoing and/or escalating problems. School/Organization: HACAP Project Leader: Selita Jansen Amount: $200 Description: Administered by the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program, Inc (HACAP), the Crisis Child Care program offers safe shelter for children during times of family crisis. Care is provided in homes of experienced and trained providers and is free of charge to Linn and Benton County families, regardless of income. Date: 6/15/10
